Journey BOREALIS
Journey BOREALIS, Pyramid Hill’s holiday light show will open to the public on Nov. 19. Now in its second year, this innovative exhibition will showcase traditional light show features as well as new media by local and regional artists.
Putting a spin on the traditional holiday lights show, Pyramid Hill aims to introduce viewers to the possibilities of new media including light art, installation art, and projection mapping. In addition to an altered route and an enhanced entry process, this year’s show will also feature an altered design. The 2021 “Journey” starts with glimmering trees and arches before winding through the blue-and-white glow of Jerusalem’s Hanukkah celebration and arriving to the park’s famed Swan Lake. Visitors will then travel through Germany’s Candy Cane Forest with more than 50 yarnwrapped trees. Next, see if you can find two sneaky characters in the Grinch’s Greenland. Attendees will pass through Bethlehem before proceeding to their final destination - the North Pole. Before exiting, there is one last surprise provided by Brave Berlin (the creators of Blink): a transformation of the Park’s Grand Pavilion into a Winterland with video projection surprises behind every door.
The soundtrack for this year’s show will emphasize the lighting design and will be performed by the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra with special tracks sung by the Cincinnati Boychoir. To listen along to the Journey BOREALIS soundtrack, download the Otocast app on your phone prior to your visit. As you enter the Park, open the app and select the
“Journey BOREALIS” map; the music will autoplay as your drive.
For the second year, City of Hamilton residents can attend Journey BOREALIS for free on Tuesdays. Proof of residency is required so attendees will be asked to show either their ID or a current City of Hamilton utility bill.
