Home weatherizing program

-

Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF) partnered with the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership to lower the cost of utilities for low-income households. In a significant stride towards energy efficiency and affordability, 35 low-income households in Butler County have been approved for the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) this winter. This program is a beacon of hope for many, promising not only to enhance the warmth and comfort of homes, but also to significantly reduce energy costs.

HWAP team members complete a comprehensive review of eligible homes to determine the most effective weatherization services. They also perform a safety inspection on the combustion appliances, such as heating units, gas stoves, and water heaters.

The program serves single family homes, duplexes, and stationary mobile homes. Special considerations are made for homes over 50 years old to ensure the preservation of historical integrity during weatherization efforts.

Eligibility for HWAP extends to Ohioans with a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. For a family of four, the income threshold is $60,000 a year. Priority is given to households with a member over the age of 60, individuals with disabilities, children, and households facing high energy usage or burden. Qualifying tenants can receive this assistance with their landlord’s approval.

Butler County residents should contact the SELF Weatherization Intake Center. For more information, visit selfhelps.org/weatherization or call 513-868-9300, option 2.
