DOUGLAS ELLIMAN’S MICHAELA ESZLER IS THE INSIDER WHO CAME FROM (FAR) AWAY.

- BY EMILY WEITZ

Douglas Elliman’s Michaela Keszler is the insider who came from (far) away.

Originally from Germany, Michaela Keszler, a senior associate broker at Douglas Elliman Real Estate, was so enamored with the Hamptons after her first visit, in 1992, she bought a home here. She tells us all about living as a local in Southampton Village.

What’s the best place in Southampton for coffee? “The Village Cheese Shop (105 Love Lane, Mattituck, 631-298-8556; thevillagecheeseshop.com). People meet and chat in the morning—it’s a cool place for grabbing your first coffee, to go over the plan for the day.” What about dinner? “It’s beautiful to sit in the garden at Tutto il Giorno (56 Nugent St., Southampton, 631-377-3611; tuttoilgiorno.com). They have great fish and the best chocolate pudding. And Sant Ambroeus (30 Main St., Southampton, 631-283-1233; santambroeus.com) is always nice. I love their sandwiches.” Where do you relax? “I love Little Plains Beach (543 Little Plains Road, Southampton). It’s an ocean beach close to where I live. There aren’t a lot of beaches in the world that are so beautiful! That’s what fascinated me about this place from the beginning: the wide, nice beaches. And they’re not overcrowded.” How has working in real estate given you an insider’s view? “You have to be aware of every trait in your area. You take someone out in a car, you’d better know an answer to everything when you drive them around. New Yorkers are real-estate savvy. You have to be on the pulse of everything.” 70 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631204-2743; elliman.com
