Unions Don’t Want A DMV Fix

-

DMV isn’t the problem, it is symptomatic of the problem. Inefficiency and poor use of resources is the state standard.

Ask yourself why you can renew a passport or a concealed-carry permit by mail but have to appear in person to renew a driver’s license. Driver’s license renewal done by mail would significantly lower the load on DMV offices — could be as much as 30 percent. Why not do it? It’s politically not acceptable, especially to the unions, who would be concerned it would reduce jobs.

The same kind of issues exist across the state. Efficiency and best use of resources is never the driving force — politics is.

DMV is just a prime example and a very easy fix. You have to start somewhere.
