Dolegala, Defense Lead Central

Led by quarterbac­k Jacob Dolegala's 168 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns, the Central Connecticu­t football team defeated host Fordham 24-13 on Saturday to improve to 2-2.

The Blue Devils' defense led the way. Grant Ibeh returned an intercepti­on 19 yards for a touchdown, and CCSU sacked Fordham quarterbac­k Tim DeMorat five times. Kenneth Keen led the attack with six total tackles and one sack.

Central forced two turnovers in the first half — a fumble recovery and a blocked punt by DJ Exilhomme — that led to 10 points. Fordham fell to 0-4.

Coast Guard 38, Norwich 35: Junior quarterbac­k Ryan Jones' 3-yard touchdown run on fourth down with nine seconds left lifted Coast Guard (3-1) to a dramatic win to capture The Mug on Parents' Weekend in a NEWMAC opener at New London.

The Cadets, who drop to 1-3 overall, almost stunned the home crowd when Connor Bourque returned the ensuing kickoff after the game-winning touchdown 60 yards to the Coast Guard 40 before kicker Cole Austin and Adam Barnes tackled him.

Jones finished 21 of 34 for 257 yards with one touchdown and one intercepti­on.

Linebacker Jake Behne lead the Coast Guard defense with 13 tackles, seven solo and two for loss.

Yale 30, Cornell 24: Spencer Alston ran for 120 yards and a touchdown and Yale won the Ivy League opener for both schools in Ithaca, N.Y.

Zane Dudek ran for two scores while Kurt Rawlings was 18 of 25 passing for 283 yards with Reed Klubnik making six catches for 100 yards for the Bulldogs (1-1). Alex Galland kicked three field goals.

Dalton Banks was 16 of 23 for 152 yards passing, including a 58-yard score to Harold Coles for the Big Red (0-2).

Western Connecticu­t 40, Salve Regina 21: At Newport, R.I., Austin Calamita had 10 receptions for 150 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Western (3-0).

David James completed 19 of 32 passes for 305 yards and the three touchdowns for the Colonials. He was picked off twice.

Sacred Heart 41, Wagner 14: Kevin Duke completed 17 of 29 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns to the lead the Pioneers (3-0) to a road win. Wagner fell to 1-3. Sacred Heart amassed 497 yards of total offense. Naseim Brantley caught two of Duke's scoring throws and made three receptions overall for 118 yards.

Southern Connecticu­t 42, Stonehill 21: The Owls blitzed the visitors for 21 thirdquart­er points en route to their win at New Haven. Eli Parks gained 140 yards on 31 carries and Matthew Sapere completed 15 of 22 passes for 169 yards and three TDs for Southern (2-2, 1-2 Northeast-10).

New Haven 44, Merrimack 18: Ajee Patterson threw three touchdowns passes to Ju'An Williams and finished 19-for-27 for 316 yards with four touchdowns for UNH (3-1).
