Big Defensive Plays Seal Rockville’s Victory
Two key defensive plays from Kevin and Nick Foley helped preserve Rockville’s 14-13 win over the co-op of Windsor Locks, Suffield and East Granby in a Pequot Uncas game Saturday night at Windsor Locks High. A key third-down tackle by Kevin Foley and a pass defended in the end zone by Nick Foley sealed the win for Rockville (2-1). A 10-yard run by Ben Ambro in the fourth proved to be the deciding score. Eric Pino had two TDs for Windsor Locks (0-2).
Middletown 44, Hartford Public 7: Xzavier Reyes rushed for three touchdowns as Middle- town defeated Hartford Public on the road in a CCC Division II East game. Reyes rushed for 203 yards and the three TDs on 13 carries. Tyreece Lumpkin added 70 yards rushing and caught four passes for 54 yards and a TD for Middletown (3-0). Melvin Flores had 90 yards and a TD on seven catches for Hartford Public (0-3).
East Catholic 42, Bulkeley/ HMTCA/Weaver 6: Matt Byam accounted for four touchdowns and East Catholic topped the Bulkeley co-op in a CCC interdivision game at Bulkeley High. Byam had 12 carries for 67 yards and three TDs and hauled in a 20-yard TD catch. Noah Vail and David Lundy each rushed for 92 yards and a score for East Catholic (2-1). The Bulkeley co-op falls to 0-3.
RHAM 35, Avon 0: Seamus Queen rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns as RHAM rolled past Avon in a CCC Division III East game at RHAM High. Queen had TD runs of 77 and 71 yards for RHAM (3-0). Cal Redman threw two touchdown passes and Kevin Clark scored on a 35-yard interception return. Avon falls to 0-3.
Cromwell/Portland 55, Lewis Mills 7: Bryce Karstetter passed for three touchdowns to lead Cromwell/Portland to a Pequot Sassacus victory at Lewis Mills. Karstetter was 12-for-13 for 315 yards for Cromwell (3-0). Nick Wright caught five passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Stergos had 96 yards and two TDs and Teddy Williams returned a fumble 20 yards for a score. A 30-yard touchdown pass from Grayson Laberge to Cooper Matiello was the lone score for Lewis Mills (0-3).
E.O. Smith 40, CREC co-op 0: Matt Jameson rushed for three touchdowns to lead E.O. Smith past the CREC co-op at Civic Leadership High in Enfield. Jameson rushed for a 6-yard score in the first and added TD runs of 24 and 35 yards in the second half. Kobe Stigler had two rushing TDs for E.O. Smith (2-1). CREC is 0-3.
Capital Prep/Achievement First 29, Woodstock Academy 15: Jeremiah Taylor rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns as Capital Prep/Achievement First beat Woodstock Academy on the road. The Trailblazers defense was stout as Kadeem McKnight returned an interception for a touchdown, Tyler Oney forced a safety and Roy Clemens had 15 tackles and two interceptions.
Suffield Academy 14, Deerfield Academy 13: Tyler Van Dyke tossed two touchdown passes and Suffield Academy edged Deerfield Academy on the road. Van Dyke, from Glastonbury, found Justin Barron, of Rocky Hill, in the first quarter and connected with Jaden Dottin for a 30-yard go-ahead TD in the fourth.
