New Britain Museum of American Art reopens July 14

“We have missed everyone and we have heard through emails and social media from a number of people who have missed the museum as well,” said Min Jung Kim, executive director of the country’s oldest museum dedicated to American art. “We’re excited to bring everyone back.”

The museum closed on March 15. It will reopen on July 14 and 15 for essential workers only, with free admission.

“Everyone thinks of health care workers. They are our heroes. But it also includes many of the other day-to-day heroes we have encountere­d through the shutdown: people who work in gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies, homeless shelters,” Kim said. “We welcome them to the museum before anyone else to say thank you.”

On July 16 and 17, members can come back. On July 18 – a Saturday, which is always free – the general public is welcome. Visitors will see the delayed Anni Albers exhibit, and the extended
