New Haven native Bria Holmes will miss the remainder of the Connecticut Sun season after tearing the meniscus in her right knee, Holmes and the Sun announced Saturday

Holmes suffered the injury while blocking a shot on the perimeter in the third quarter of Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury. She would not return after exiting the game seconds later and then appeared on the Sun sidelines on Friday in a knee brace and on crutches.

“For these past couple of days I’ve been trying to find the words & strength to say something. I would’ve never thought it would be me. Looking back I didn’t know so good of [a] play would end the rest of my season for me,” Holmes said in an Instagram post. “As much as I wanted to finish this season out because we made playoffs and then head overseas right after, God had other plans for me. As upset as I am I know I will come back better and stronger. Now time to go home and rehab!!! Thanks for all the love and prayers. I will be back!!!

Holmes and her family, including her two-year-old daughter and bubble sensation Dionna, will leave the WNBA bubble to return to Connecticut.

Late Friday, Dream top Sun: Rookie Chennedy Carter scored 22 points, Courtney Williams had 20 points and nine rebounds and the Atlanta Dream beat the Connecticut Sun 82-75 on Friday night.

DeWanna Bonner led Connecticut with 17 points and eight rebounds. Natisha Hiedeman and Kaila Charles each scored 13 points, and Alyssa Thomas had nine points and nine rebounds. The Sun’s next game will be in the playoffs.
