On Wednesday, January 27th, 2021, Jocelyn Marie PayneBrown, loving wife and mother of six children, entered eternal rest at the age of 63. Jocelyn was born on October 25th, 1957 in Hartford to George Gordon and Dorothy Jones Payne. Jocelyn began a modeling career at The Barbizon School in 1967. She later became the first African American woman to be crowned Miss. G Fox. Jocelyn excelled in her studies and was accepted to University at the age of 15. She received a Bachelor of Science with Individual Concentrat­ion (BDIC) from the University of Massachuse­tts, at Amherst in 1983. She dedicated her life to helping children as an Investigat­or for the Department of Children and Family Services for the State of Connecticu­t. On June 15th, 2002, she married Mr. Reginald J. “Chevy” Brown Sr. Together they raised four sons, Jason Alexander Ryals of Windsor, Reginald J. Brown II of Clearwater, FL, Jonathan Brown (Noel) of Williamsto­n, SC, and Devin Brown of Groton and two daughters, Jasmin-Anne Ryals of Boston, MA and Jhyde-Elise Ryals of Boston, MA.

Known to light up a room with her beaming smile and exuberant personalit­y, Jocelyn was always the life of the party. She was a trained chef who loved to host elegant gatherings in her leisure. She was an avid reader, music aficionado, and world traveler. Genuine, compassion­ate, wise, charming, outspoken, witty, intelligen­t, sassy, stylish, and eclectic are just a few characteri­stics that Jocelyn embodied; To know her is to love her. She will always be the love of our lives; Mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Although our hearts ache, heaven has gained an angel.

Jocelyn was preceded in death by her father, George Gordon, her mother, Dorothy Jones Payne, her nephew, Charles E. Hill Jr, and son, Reginald J. Brown II. She is survived by her husband, five children, brothers: Leslie S. Payne Sr, and George A. Payne II, sisters: Karen L. Payne, and Paulette R. Payne-Hill (Charles E. Hill Sr), several cousins, nieces, nephews, a host of extended family (Bowles Park), and dear friends.

A private funeral service and interment at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT will be held on Saturday, February 20th, at 10:00 a.m. Calling hours will be held between 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. A reception will not be held following Internment due to COVID-19 restrictio­ns. Donations in Jocelyn’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
