Knapp, Barbara Jean (Blair)
Barbara Jean Knapp, beloved wife, mother, Mimi, and sister died peacefully at her home in Avon, Connecticut, on February 13, 2021.
Barbara Jean Blair was born April 9, 1932, in Boise, Idaho, the daughter of Wilson and Evelyn Blair. Barbara graduated as Valedictorian from IIwaco High School in 1950, followed by college in Corvallis, Oregon to become a dental hygienist. She met Bill Knapp, a student at Oregon State University, on a blind date and eventually succumbed to his persistence that led to their 66-year marriage.
Barbara was devoted wife and mother of five children. She traveled the world and sailed the seas with Bill and their expanding family. Barbara exuded elegance and grace, and a wry, quiet sense of humor. She was a true lifelong friend to many and was most widely known for her selfless giving to others. She prioritized her family and was the glue that managed the chaos of a family of seven and two dogs. Barbara enjoyed playing tennis in those few spare moments. As the children left the nest she reinvigorated her career and pivoted into real estate in Avon. She also volunteered for many years at Gifts of Love.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Bill. She leaves behind her children, Gail, Steven, Susan, Sharon, and Michael. She was the grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a great grandmother to thirteen, with one more on the way. Barbara also leaves her sister, Kareen Newsom, who reside in Long Beach, Washington, the longtime home of their parents. Mimi was the matriarch of her family and adored by all. She created a great family life full of tradition and rich in experiences. She leaves a legacy of lessons and love that will shape her family for generations.
Services will be announced at a later date. The Vincent Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Barbara's “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
