Menold, Lois S (Skivell)

-

Lois Skivell Menold, 83, recently of St. Louis, Missouri and formerly from West Hartford, Connecticut passed away from complications of cancer. Lois raised her family in New England and retired from her career as a systems analyst at Aetna Life and Casualty.

Lois, a.k.a, Louisa, Lo Lo, Grandma, Grams, Spitey, and GGL, known as a loyal friend and a generous spirit was immensely proud of her family. She considered her children Melissa Menold, John (Geri) Menold, Elizabeth Young , Kathleen and (Richard) to be great, her grandchildren Rick, Erin (Chris),Kelly, Alistair, Emma, and Caroline to be amazing, and her great grandchildren Aubrey, Brady, and Ethan to be incredible. Her beloved son Michael predeceased her as did her former husband, Bill Menold.

The love she received from her parents John T. Skivell and Marcella Palmer she in turn extended to the world through loving kindness. Her compassion and enjoyment of others was a hallmark of her life as she collected friends and served as an inspiration for gracious resilience through many of life's challenges. She treasured dear family and friends near and far and always enjoyed a good story or funny joke.

She enjoyed a variety of pastimes which included art, music, bridge, literature, travel, interior design, and sports. She so did love her New England sports teams and she loved playing tennis, cards, and Scrabble. While she was incredibly kind and loving, she was a fierce competitor when playing Spite and Malice with her grandchildren, hence the nickname Spitey. Dogs were special to her and she felt fortunate to have been a dog grandma.

Lois moved from Connecticut to St. Louis in 2019 with her daughter Melissa. She was comforted to know that Melissa is in the care of Kathleen and Richard in St. Louis. The family is planning a memorial mass at St. Mary's in Milford, CT on September 25, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancercare.org or Sisters of Mercy. A final message she asked to be shared was “Thank you for your friendship.”
