Millerick, Jack

-

Jack Millerick, 66, beloved husband of Nancy (Yelenak) Millerick and father of Colleen Elizabeth Millerick, of Columbia, died Saturday, February 13, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 10, 1954 in Middletown, CT, son of Patricia (Reynolds) Millerick and the late John “Jack” Millerick.

Jack graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Economics and later received a master's degree and sixth year certificate in Industrial Arts from Central Connecticut State University. Until his retirement in 2014 he was a technology education teacher and department head at the Norwich Free Academy. Jack had an incredible knowledge of tools, materials and fine craftsmanship and taught courses in woodworking, power mechanics, drafting and engineering. He took great pride in the achievement of his students and enjoyed watching the many beautiful clocks, cabinets and chests going home. Family was most important to Jack and he was happiest spending time with “his girls”, his wife Nancy and beloved daughter, Colleen. Together they traveled across the country to explore the National Parks and took several trips to Europe to learn about their heritage. Most recently, they have enjoyed walking and biking the beach at their second home in St. Augustine, FL. But best of all to Jack was being at the helm of his boat taking his family to Block Island for a summer stay in the Great Salt Pond. Clamming and swimming off the boat will always be treasured memories there. Jack also loved to cook and his pizzas, barbecued ribs and meatballs were well enjoyed by neighbors and friends.

In addition to his wife, daughter and mother, Jack is survived by his brother Mark Millerick and his wife Susan of St. Augustine, FL., his sister Nancy Gosselin and her husband Michael of Cromwell, and two nieces Renée Gemmer and Andrea Gosselin.

A memorial service to honor Jack will be scheduled at a future date. Donations may be made in his memory to the Technology Education Department at the Norwich Free Academy.
