No. 11 Boston University sends UConn to third straight loss

Freshman Luke Tuch scored 44 seconds into overtime on Saturday to lead No. 11 Boston University to a 3-2 Hockey East win over UConn at the Freitas Ice Forum.

After gaining a national ranking for the first time (No. 20), the Huskies have now lost three in a row in falling to 8-9-2 on the season.

UConn did all its scoring in the first period. Carter Turnbull gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead with his ninth of the season at 1:28. Brian Rigali doubled the lead at 15:32, his third of the season.

The Terriers’ Jay O’Brien cut the lead to 2-1 with just 51 seconds left in the opening period. Then after a scoreless second, Max Kaufman tied the game at 13:59 of the third.

Men’s basketball

LIU-Brooklyn 87, Central Connecticu­t State 74: At New York, Ty Flowers had 20 points and 10 rebounds as Long Island-Brooklyn topped visiting Central Connecticu­t in a Northeast Conference game.

Jermaine Jackson Jr. had 19 points and six rebounds for Long Island-Brooklyn (8-7, 8-7 NEC). Virshon Cotton added 15 points and six rebounds. Eral Penn had 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Quinnipiac 80, Rider 64: At Hamden, Luis Kortright, Tymu Chenery and Jacob Rigoni scored 18 points apiece as Quinnipiac picked up the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win.

Rigoni also had 15 rebounds for his third double-double this season. Tyrese Williams added 11 points for Quinnipiac (7-9, 5-7 MAAC).

St.Francis,N.Y.,88,Sacred Heart 76: At New York, Chauncey Hawkins had 22 points as St. Francis (Brooklyn) won the Northeast Conference game.

Unique McLean had 15 points and nine rebounds for St. Francis (8-8, 8-7 NEC). Travis Atson added 14 points and nine rebounds. Trey Quartlebau­m had 12 points and David Muenkat 10.

Baseball

UConn 10, Virginia 9: At Charlottes­ville, Va., Christian Fedko had four hits and three runs scored and Chris Brown had two hits and four RBIs as the Huskies scored eight runs over the last four innings for the win.

UConn (1-1) evened the three-game series with the 15th-ranked Cavaliers with the teams playing the deciding game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
