Burgess, Rutherford

Rutherford (Rudy) Burgess 94, unexpectedly died February 27, 2021 He was born in Hartford, CT moving to Rocky Hill in 1958. Rudy was predeceased by his wife Barbara Thornton Burgess his son, David Burgess, his parents Leonard and Anna Burgess, his brother Leonard Jr and his sister Gladys Kitchens.

Rudy leaves to mourn his passing, 4 grandchildren Kayla, Ashley, Tara and Crystal Burgess, his daughterin-law JoAnn, his nieces Jean Bonner, Pamela Washington, Janice Miller and Juanita Savage and his nephews Wayne and Craig Burgess. He also leaves 9 great-grandchildren Alexis, Alexander, Alana, Mila, Antonio, Christopher, Kaleb, Juliana and Layla and a host of great nieces and nephews and friends.

As a pharmacist, Rudy worked and later owned Harris Pharmacy in Hartford and after retirement he worked at Rialto Pharmacy. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was active in the Rocky Hill Historical Society, Rocky Hill Congregational Church, Social Seniors of Rocky Hill, and performed with the Serenaders, singing, playing his guitar and telling jokes. He also visited nursing homes performing. Rudy loved playing golf and bowling.

Due to Covid 19, there will be no calling hours. Services will be at his gravesite at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Elm St. Rocky Hill on March 10, 2021 at 1:00PM. In the future when we can all meet safely, we will have a celebration of his life.
