Sacred Heart falls to shorthanded Bryant in NEC semifinals
Peter Kiss scored 19 points, leading five into double figures and second-seeded Bryant rolled past No. 3 Sacred Heart 85-55 in a Northeast Conference tournament semifinal on Saturday at Smithfield, R.I.
Bryant advanced to the title game for the first time and will face No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s, a 66-60 upset winner over top seed Wagner, on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs postseason was in jeopardy with a positive COVID19
test a week ago before getting clearance to play by the Northeast Conference and the Rhode Island Department of Health. COVID-19 protocols left Bryant with seven players on Saturday.
Hall Elisias added 18 points for the Bulldogs, while Charles Pride chipped in 16. Elisias, who ranks 17th nationally in blocks per game (2.5) added three blocks and nine rebounds. Erickson Bans had 13 points for Bryant (15-5), and Luis Hurtado 12.
Tyler Thomas had 14 points for the Pioneers (9-9). Nico Galette
added 13 points.
Men’s hockey
Colgate 4, Quinnipiac 3: At Hamden, Josh McKechney scored the game-winning goal at 17:11 of the third period to lead the Raiders to the ECAC win in the regular-season-ending game for both teams.
The Bobcats, 17-6-4 and ranked No. 11 in the nation, will begin play in the conference tournament on Thursday as the top seed.
Joey Cipollone, Ethan de Jong and TJ Friedmann scored goals for Quinnipiac.
Baseball
Davidson 4, UConn 3: At Conway, S.C., the Huskies left the potential tying run on second in dropping the nonconference game. Reggie Crawford homered for the Huskies (3-5) leading off the ninth to close the gap to one run.
Zach Bushling and David Langer drove in the other runs for UConn, which closes out its road trip with games against
Coastal Carolina on Sunday and Monday.
Joe Simeone started for the Huskies and went 3 ⅓ innings, allowing two runs and four hits. Kenneth Haus (0-1) took the loss in relief.
Men’s soccer
UConn 0, Seton Hall 0: At Storrs, Jahmali Waite had four saves as the Huskies and Pirates settled for the Big East tie. Andreas Nota had three saves for Seton Hall (3-1-2, 1-1-1). UConn is 1-2-1 and 0-2-1.
