Driscoll, Carol A.
Carol Ann Driscoll of Lebanon, Connecticut passed away peacefully on March 18 2021 surrounded by her daughters. She was born on January 24 1938 in Milford Ct. and the dearly beloved wife of the late Alan Kerry Driscoll. They married on December 27 1958 at The Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford Ct. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before Alan passed in 2009. She was a beloved mother to two daughters, Scarlett Elizabeth Driscoll of New London, Ct and Rebecca Rowley Driscoll of Lebanon, Ct and two Coton De Tulear grand dogs, Clover and Jillie.
Carol was the daughter of the late Edward B and Phyllis Massung(Adams). Carol was one of five children. She is predeceased by Edward Massung Jr., Mary Louise Ziolkowski , and Beverly Manierre. She is also predeceased by her beloved sister-in-laws, Senator Grace Drake(Driscoll) from Solon, Oh and Rosemarie Driscoll(Applebaum). Her oldest sister, Delores Cross in Carson City, Nevada, survives her as well as her brother-in-laws, Daniel Driscoll III of New London, Ct and Paul Ziolkowski of Beverly, Ma. Additionally, Carol leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends.
During Childhood, Carol's parents relocated to West Hartford, Ct from Milford, Ct where she attended Hall High School and graduated in 1956. Secretarial, shorthand, typing, home economics were subjects that she used to prepared herself for the future. She enjoyed working at AAA Auto Club in Hartford for a period of time before she and her husband, Alan began their family. Alan's teaching position brought him to Lyme, Ct and they made a home for their family in Waterford, Niantic, New London, and Ashaway, R.I. before moving to Lebanon where the family resided for 44 years. Carol was a fiercely independent person who always knew where she stood on any issue. Her accomplishments personally and professionally were numerous and varied. Carol was a strong, resourceful and supportive parent to her daughters whom she loved very much. While raising her family, Carol found immense joy in several hobbies. She was a horse owner for many years and competed in Gymkhana competitions as well as pleasure riding. She instilled the love of horsemanship in both of her daughters from the time they were very young. Carol was an excellent cook, accomplished gardener and talented seamstress. Carol knew the Latin names for most plants and rarely used their common names. She had a penchant for perennials and specifically, hostas. Carol kept a beautifully decorated home and she and her husband, Alan shared a great appreciation for vintage homes and the countryside. She enjoyed old movies and anything James Cagney or Clark Gable! Carol appreciated classical music as well as playing her baby grand piano. She loved to shop, cruise the Caribbean and spent many years with friends and family at Ocean and Misquamicut beaches in the summer months.
Career wise, Carol enjoyed people and waitressed at many restaurants through the years beginning with The Andrea in Misquamicut R.I. Carol also worked at Jonas Log Cabin for eight years while her family resided in Lebanon. In 1989 Carol enrolled at the Willimantic Institute for Hairdressing and Cosmetology. She worked in several salons, including The Cutting Crew in the Norwichtown Mall, Norwich, Ct before transitioning into private hairdressing. Carol truly enjoyed her clients and making them feel beautiful.
Carol will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Those who knew Carol, knew she was a passionate advocate for animals of all types and had many animals over the years from dogs, cats, goats, geese, chickens, ducks, sheep and, of course, her beloved horses. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 am, St Joseph's Church, corner of Squire St and Montauk Ave, New London, Ct. Burial will be private.
