Vatican wrong on LGBTQ+

- Margaret Kaplan, West Hartford

As a faithful Catholic and after prayerful reflection of the Vatican’s statement rejecting the blessing LGBTQ+ couples’ unions, I am deeply concerned about the harm this document can trigger.

Spiritual harm, personal physical harm, violent harassment from others and worse. The possible estrangement from family and rejection at work and elsewhere. Was there anything in the statement cautioning against mistreatment in any way of the LGBTQ+ community?

Committed LGBTQ+ couples contribute

enormously to the witness of gospel values in places of worship and communities. We can all be inspired by their selfless devotion if people could listen and learn from their experiences of faith and service. Listening brings understanding and dissolves animosity.

We are the church from the grassroots. Our personal experience of God present in our lives cannot be dismissed or diminished. Participating in the sacramental life of the church is not limited to a select few. Loving, committed LGBTQ+ couples’ unions exist through the presence of a

loving God who creates all reality.

Address crisis at border

Our elected officials in Washington as usual are wasting time on semantics. The situation on our southern border, depending on party loyalties, is either a challenge or a crisis.

Our elected officials should call the situation an absolute mess, earn their money and find a solution.
