Aldridge plans to join the star-studded Nets

LaMarcus Aldridge plans to sign with the Nets for the remainder of the season, a person with knowledge of the details said Saturday.

After reaching a buyout agreement with the Spurs on Thursday, the veteran forward quickly became a coveted free agent for contending teams.

He decided to become the latest big name on the Brooklyn roster, the person told The Associated Press.

Aldridge averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in 5 ½ seasons for the Spurs, before they removed him from the rotation earlier this season. He was an All-Star in three of his seasons in San Antonio.

He joins a Nets team that has current All-Stars Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving, and added a former one earlier this month when it signed Blake Griffin.

MLB: The Brewers re-signed pitcher Jordan Zimmermann to a minor league contract one day after releasing him. This move enables the Brewers to send the 34-yearold right-hander to their alternate site in Appleton, Wisconsin. “I think Jordan is going to help us at some point in the season,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.

NHL: The Sabres lost their 17th consecutive game on Saturday, twice blowing a one-goal lead before Craig Smith scored with 3:50 left to snap a third-period tie and give the Bruins a 3-2 victory. The Sabres have not won since Feb. 23, tying the 18th longest losing streak in NHL history. It was just the fifth time during that span that they have managed to come within one goal . ... Adam Erne and Robby Fabbri scored 29 seconds apart in the first period and Calvin Pickard made 21 saves in his first start of the season, helping the Red Wings beat the Blue Jackets 3-1 on Saturday. Anthony Mantha also scored for the last-place Red Wings, who were coming off an embarrassing 7-1 loss at Nashville on Thursday night. Dylan Larkin had two assists. Detroit had 15 of the game’s first 17 shots.
