Brown, Etta R (Remes)

- Please sign guestbook at courant.com/obituaries

I am, Etta (Henrietta) Remes Brown, of Mansfield Center. I was born on January 31st, 1955 and I passed away, on June 19th, 2021. My journalistic mind tells me that I am 66. Most Importantly, even though I lost my battle with cancer, I have rejoined my beloved David. Now, I have a few things to say. The first is, Thank You. I want to thank the physicians, nurses, techs and staff of the Harford Hospital. And my friends and family, who were looking after me while I was ill. Whether it was giving me a ride, shopping for me, making me more comfortable, visiting with me (including drive-by parades) or letting me use you as a sounding board. I was predeceased by my loving husband, David Brown; my parents, Raymond and Catherine Remes; a brother, Barry Remes; my inlaws, Richard and Beverly Brown; and brother-in-law,

Richard L. Brown. And I am survived my sister Gloria Cabot in Oregon. I have also left many cherished family members, friends and area artists, including my close companion Tyler Rowett. I was brought up in East Hartford and went to Penny High School. I received an Associate Degree in Journalism/Communication from MCC, and a Master Gardner's Certificate from UCONN. I loved mother earth, music and community. Many of my gardens specializing in butterfly and hummingbird plants. Along with David, I co-founded and co-owned of Nature Nook Greenhouse in Eastford, a business dedicated to many good works, including The Hole-In-The Wall Gang Camp and the Burn Camp for children. I was the mother/provider for several feline friends. And for a decade, I held annual fundraisers for the Willimantic food pantries and the No Freeze Shelter, attended by regional and local musicians and artist and loyal sponsors. I hear, there is going to be a Celebration of Life service held for me, on Sunday, September 12th, 2021 at Mansfield Hollow Recreation Area on Bassett's Bridge Road, Mansfield, Ct. The festivities start at 3pm. In my traditional style it will be Potluck, so bring a dish to share. Against my wishes, there will paperware and plastic utensils. Feel free to bring photos, play music or share a story. I hope that expressions of sympathy can be in the form a memorial donation to: Windham Region No Freeze Project, P.O. Box 46, 75 Bridge Street, Willimanitic, CT 06226. (860) 450-1346. Lastly, give the person you love the most, a big hug and kiss, for me.

Share the love.
