John J. Lyth, Jr., 96, of Berlin, husband of Violet Boissoneau Lyth, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. John was born to the late John J. Lyth, Sr., and Carrie Westman Lyth in 1925. He grew up in Newington, attended Newington High School with the Class of 1943. John was a U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly serving his country during World War II. After his honorable service, he returned to Newington and remained there until 1997 when he moved to Berlin. John worked many years for Kessler Constructi­on Company as General Superinten­dent until retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Newington Mason Sequin Lodge 140, the American Legion Post 117, the VFW 10792-DAV and was a member of the Church of Christ Congregati­onal in Newington for 65 years. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Violet Boissoneau Lyth; his son, William F. Lyth and wife Debra; his daughter JoAnn L. Huffman and husband Michael; and his daughter, Cheryl L. Tine and husband, Michael. Besides his wife and children, he leaves eight grandchild­ren and fourteen great grandchild­ren. John is also survived by three step-children, Dean Boissoneau and his wife, Peggy; Neil Boissoneau and his wife, Deborah; and Cheryl Boissoneau and her husband, Bruce Gobi; along with four step-grandchild­ren and three step-great grandchild­ren. John was predecease­d by his parents, his first wife, Margaret H. Lyth, his sister Evelyn Lyth, and his foster brother, Howard Werklin. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the convenienc­e of the family at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
