Joan Wade Hale of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Friday, August 27, 2021. She was the beloved wife of almost 60 years to Francis (Fran) Towne Hale who predecease­d her in 2007. Joan was born in Salem, New Hampshire in 1926, the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth (Fales) Wade. The family moved to Newton, Massachuse­tts where Joan spent her young adult life. She attended Dayton College in Ohio, where she studied music, before marrying Fran in 1947 and moving to Manchester, Connecticu­t.

After being a stay at home mom, Joan was a claims analyst with Travelers. After retirement, she and Fran trailered cross country and later visited England. While the family was growing up their favorite spots were the White Mountains of New Hampshire and spending summer vacations at Cape Cod. She was very active at Center Congregati­onal Church, as well as being involved with the Girl Scouts. She was a former president of the Manchester Art Associatio­n and especially enjoyed painting seascapes. Joan adored her Scottish Terriers and was a friend to all who met her.

Joan is survived by her sons Philip (Debra) and Stephen Hale. She also leaves behind three grandchild­ren, David (Megan), Jason, and Crys as well as one great grandson, Jackson and many nieces and nephews.
