Cowee, Gerald E.

Gerald E. Cowee, 86, of Skidaway Island, GA passed away peacefully in the early afternoon of Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Born in Springfield, MA, he was a son of the late Stanley and Dorothy (Colson) Cowee. Jerry was educated in the Springfield schools, graduating from Commerce High and from WNEC with degrees in engineering and business. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957 as a communications correspondent in Germany. He resided in Wilbraham, MA for many happy years and retired as regional sales engineer from HESCO of West Hartford, CT in 1998. Jerry was a member of Quaboag Country Club in Monson, MA for over 20 years. He was a constant in the fairways and seated at the Winter-time Pitch League. Jerry and his wife Mary were avid readers, international travelers, and partners in every way. Retiring to Savannah Georgia in 1998, Mary and Jerry were members at the Landings Golf Club at Skidaway Island, where Jerry won the President's Cup in 2000. Jerry volunteered as a barn-builder at Bethesda Academy. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Fanning) Cowee; son, David Cowee and wife Athena Cowee of Enfield, CT; son, James Cowee and wife Cincy Woods of Evergreen, CO; daughter, Karen Cowee of Boulder, CO; three grandchildren: Tyler Cowee, Clayton Cowee, and Jett Cowee, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by a brother, William Cowee. Relatives and friends are invited to meet for a Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry on Monday, October 25th at 11:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton, Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Committal with US Army honors will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Arrangements are under the care of Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home in Holyoke, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Dr, Savannah, GA 31406, or to Compassus Hospice, 107 Southern Blvd, Suite 203, Savannah, GA 31405.
