Helen Mae (Smith) Monahan, 96, of Rocky Hill CT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger Lawrence Monahan of Hartford CT. Born in Miners Mills, PA, daughter of the late James Joseph Smith and Frances Marie (Fassett) Smith, Helen was raised in Fox Hill, PA before moving with her family to Hartford CT. While not busy giving birth to seven children, Helen was a lifetime employee and retiree of the Southern New England Telephone Company. She enjoyed Jeanette Macdonald and Nelson Eddy movies, Tom Jones songs, Dove Ice Cream bars and her evening glass of fine red wine by the pond. A lover of all animals and growing things of the earth, she adored her cats above all else, holding them close to her heart as the family members that they were.

A loving mother, grandmothe­r and great grandmothe­r, she leaves her brother James J. Smith, Jr. and wife Lillian of Enfield CT, four daughters, Nora Monahan Jones of Bridgeport CT, Frances Marie Wickstrom and Husband Ted of Wethersfie­ld CT, Karen Lynn Monahan and Longtime Companion James Bates of St. Petersburg FL, Patricia Rose Monahan and husband George McCulloch of Rocky Hill CT and two sons, Richard Allan Monahan and wife Doreen of Spofford NH, Timothy James Monahan and wife Dawn of Newington CT, six grandchild­ren, Nathan Monahan of Los Angeles CA, Andrea Wood of Sacramento CA, Kristina Wickstrom of Bowling Green KY, David Wickstrom of Long Island NY, Christophe­r Wickstrom of Salt Lake City UT, Jacqueline Smith Acri Garofalo and husband Lenny of Fairfield CT,

and two great grandchild­ren, Ava Mae Acri Garofalo and John Joseph Acri Garofalo. She was predecease­d by her husband Roger Lawrence Monahan, son Roger Lawrence Monahan, sisters Frances Libertucci and Rose Salonia, and grandchild John Robert Jones, IV.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday October 18. She will be laid to rest in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield CT.
