LaPlante, Dr. Janice Marie

Dr. Janice Marie LaPlante, PhD, beloved wife of Gary L. LaPlante, passed away Saturday July 24, 2021 at St.

Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Janice was born October 17, 1954 in Jackson, MI and resided in Simsbury, CT.

She received a degree in biomedical sciences from Indiana University Bloomington. She married Gary L. LaPlante and they started their family in CO. The LaPlante family moved back to CT where Janice, being an extremely talented seamstress, started a very successful interior decorating business before going back to finish her PhD.

Janice earned a doctorate degree in Molecular Biology from the University of CT after which she began a 16year career in medical research at Brigham & Woman's

and Mass General Hospitals while on the Faculty of Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. During her career, she did extensive research into the mechanisms of various cellular mutations and their impact on the human body.

After her career in research, Janice moved back to CT where she began a very successful career as a college professor, teaching various science courses at multiple universities throughout the New England area.

Janice was a devout and long-time parishioner of the Catholic Church. She was a kind, gentle and virtuous woman, whose demeanor somewhat hid what a capable, talented, intelligent, and well-educated woman she was.

In addition to her husband Gary, she is survived by her two daughters, Becky & Laura LaPlante; two grandsons Alex Romanowicz & Sirius LaPlante-Niksa. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis "Fran” & Rosemary Hausenbauer, and her daughter Michelle LaPlante-Romanowicz.

In accordance with Dr. LaPlante's wishes, her body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Program for the Frank H Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University for medical education and research.
