Troiano, Sr., Anthony John

-

Anthony John Troiano Sr., age 67, of East Sandwich, MA passed away with his loving family by his side on February 7, 2023. Born in Hartford, CT to the late Anthony M. Troiano and Josephine (Infante) Troiano, Tony is survived by the love of his life, his soulmate, and his caretaker during his three year battle with ALL, Laurie (Zisk) Troiano; his daughter Kate (Troiano) Neilson and son-in-law Kenneth “KJ” Neilson, and his son Anthony “AJ” Troiano Jr. and soon to be daughter-in-law Leanna Caroselli.

Tony grew up in Bloomfield, CT and attended the University of Connecticut, where in 1976 he met Laurie at a small party in Hartford, CT where his cousin and closest friend, the late William Fenton of Yarmouth, MA, introduced them – the rest was history. Tony was an avid outdoorsman and lover of nature, graduating from UConn with a degree in Natural Resources in 1978, he and Laurie moved to Cape Cod, MA. Shortly after, he adventured west to the Rockies to work for the Forest Service in Carbondale, CO. He returned to the Cape in the early 1980s and opened “Troiano's Bakery and Convenience” on Route 132 in Hyannis, MA, a town staple that brought him recognition for decades. He closed the store only to accept his dream job as Chief Ranger for Sandy Neck Beach, which kicked off his 20-year career in municipal government, getting his master's degree in public administration, culminating in becoming a town manager. After retirement he enjoyed working for his dear friends Brian and Nancy Clifford at the Earl of Sandwich Motel. His larger-thanlife presence, enormous sense of humor, and above all else, his legendary mustache left an imprint that no one could forget. A selfless family man, Tony's greatest joy in life was watching his children grow up and seeing the birth of his two grandchildren, James, and Tripp Neilson.

The family is so grateful for the care he received at Dana Farber in Boston, MA over the last three years, and Tony took comfort in Dr. Daniel DeAngelo's incredible team. He is also survived by his seven siblings; Mary and Warren Washburn of Marion, MA, Theresa and the late Jeff Emery of Windsor, CT, Claire Troiano of Hadley, MA, Anne and Robert Wargo of Stratford, CT, Joseph Troiano and the late Grace Haronian of Hartford, CT, Peter Troiano and Jeffrey O'Geary of Old Lyme, CT, Elizabeth Troiano of Tariffville, CT, his sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Vincent DeCrosta of Cromwell, CT, his mother-in-law Jeannette Murphy and dear friend Peter Haber of Middletown, CT, his best friend Jed Healy of Marston Mills, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, February 15 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563 from 4-8pm. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 16 at the First Church Sandwich, 136 Main St., Sandwich, MA at 11am.
