Demos, Theodore P.

-

Theodore P. Demos, 98, peacefully passed away Monday, February 6, 2023, at home on his recliner with his daughter holding his hand. Ted was born in Florence, MA to the late Peter and Katherine Demopoulos. He grew up in Springfield, MA and was the eldest of seven children. Ted's Greek Orthodox faith was very important to him. He belonged to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Hartford. Ted consistently attended weekly services until COVID closures. He read the bible twice a day. Ted participated in numerous clubs and committees, including many years as church treasurer. At church, Ted was voted Father of the Year in 2008. One reason noted was that every week for many years, he collected day old baked goods from Stop & Shop and delivered them to people in need. Ted's interests included reading, sports, music and his friends. He especially enjoyed reading the Bible, Hartford Courant and Readers Digest. Ted followed many teams with favorites including Boston College football, the Red Sox and UCONN women's basketball. Due to his incredible memory, Ted recalled stats, players and games back to the 1930's. He enjoyed music from a young age. Ted was introduced to Gilbert & Sullivan at age 11 and listened to their operas throughout his life. He introduced granddaughters, Danielle and Kelsey, to Gilbert & Sullivan. Ted also enjoyed Greek music, Celtic Thunder and country music. As his hearing started to go, the music could be heard long before reaching his apartment. Ted was quite social and would readily start conversations with strangers. He continued to make new friends throughout his life. Ted truly enjoyed his time in London during the war (1943-1946) and reminisced about it often. He was fiercely independent, had a strong will to live and was lucid when he passed.

Ted is survived by his son Peter and wife Ann of Melbourne Beach, FL, daughter Connie of Ashford, CT, grandchildren Danielle, Kelsey, Alethia, Michael, Mark, Peter and Eleni and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sandra (Channa) and brother Louis. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his wife Helen (2016), sisters Elizabeth, Jennie and Christina, brother James and son-in-law Don.

The funeral service for Ted will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023, 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford, CT. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Tuesday prior to the service, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
