Loveland, Judith-Ann

Judith-Ann (Naper Donovan) Loveland passed away on Feb. 8, 2023, after a short illness. During her last few days, she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, siblings, and nieces. Judy was born on March 31, 1939 in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from South Boston High School in 1956. In 1957, she married James C. Donovan and had 6 children with him. Judy was very proud of her career in medicine, starting as a volunteer EMT for the East Hampton Ambulance Association and then working as an EMT in the Emergency Room of Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. She was so inspired by her work at the hospital that she went to nursing school and became an LPN. She worked as a nurse for over 20 years at a Connecticut Veterans Hospital. On April Fool's Day, 2000, Judy eloped to marry the love of her life, Earl (Buzz) Loveland and settled into his family home in Manchester, immediately becoming part of his large family of seven adult children. Buzz opened up a whole new world for Judy as together they shared many romantic adventures, going on cruises, antiquing, and hanging out with Buzz's musician friends at the Arch St. Tavern in Hartford. They also took many trips to Cape Cod, Judy's favorite vacation spot. Buzz passed away on June 22, 2016, and she missed him every day. Judy was also a fantastic cook, loved our big family gatherings with everyone in the kitchen together, and baked several of the family's wedding cakes. Judy was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Charlotte Naper, her sixth child, Michael Henry Donovan, who died shortly after birth, her sister-in-law, Angela Naper, and her best friend from childhood, Maryanne Maio. Judy leaves behind her children, Kathleen Torrey (husband Tim), Stephen Donovan (wife Martha), Daniel Donovan (wife Deanna), Sean Donovan (wife Julie), Dennis Donovan, grandchildren Ryan, Colin, Nicole, Michael, Galen, Megan, greatgrandchildren Tessa, Nora, Gaby, Jaxson, Theo, siblings Robert Naper (wife Jeanne), Paul Naper (wife Pat), Patricia Gardner (husband John), and many nieces, nephews, as well as grand-nieces and nephews. She was the head of our family and affectionately known as "The Goddess". In accordance with Judith's wishes, her body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Program for the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.
