Porat, Florence L.

-

Florence Lee Porat, known affectionately as "Flo from Bow", died peacefully on March 4, 2023 at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, NH. She was the beloved wife of Robert Henry Porat for 61 years prior to his death in 2015. Flo was the daughter of the late Minnie Woitowitz Lee and Bertus George Lee of Hartford, CT. Growing up in Hartford and New Britain, Florence would later meet her future husband, Bob, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford.

As a devoted wife, mother, and friend, many of Flo's fondest memories were in Southington, CT, where she and the family enjoyed social gatherings with close friends from both the neighborhood and from the Zion Lutheran Church. Here she proudly served as a Sunday School teacher and president of the Women's Guild. Flo also enjoyed a variety of secretarial and clerical work positions, but particularly relished her time as a legal secretary at the law firms, Pudlin and Silver and Elliott & Forgione. After raising their family in Southington, CT, Flo and Bob relocated to Hopkinton, NH where they began their next life chapter. They became active members of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Concord. Flo soon found employment at Crathern Engineering in Contoocook, where she served as the administrative and sales secretary, retiring after seven years. She then became a literacy volunteer, worked in Avon sales, and pursued other interests such as volunteering for political campaigns and NH Legislative Committee work. She also enjoyed dabbling in writing poetry and traveling with Bob to destinations domestic and abroad. Flo and Bob later moved to Georges Mills where, together, they built their retirement home, hosting many get-togethers for family and friends. She and Bob particularly loved spending special time there with their beloved grandchildren. In their golden years, they moved to Evangelyn Drive in Bow.

Surrounded by family members in the days leading up to her death, Flo kept everyone smiling and laughing, as she never lost her sense of humor and signature quick wit. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Flo leaves her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren with a legacy of wonderful stories and memories to cherish. She will be fondly remembered for her warm heart, giving nature, industrious spirit, and love of dogs. Flo is survived by her loving sons, Ronald Porat and wife Sin Mei of Mansfield, MA, Steven Porat and his wife Stacy of Bow, NH, Thomas Porat and wife Detta of Greenland, NH, and Andrew Porat and husband Randy Penrod of Concord, NH. Flo also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren: Matthew Porat, Brendan Porat and wife Mishel, Sarah Jefferson and husband Christian, Christopher and Zachary Porat, and her four granddogs. With heartfelt gratitude, the family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Whitaker Place in Penacook, NH, Merrimack County Nursing Home, and Granite VNA Hospice and for their care, support, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Flo's memory may be made to Granite VNA (granitevna.org/donate) or the Concordia Lutheran Church (concordialutheranchurch. org).

A private funeral service and burial will be planned to commemorate a beautiful woman and a beautiful life. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bennettfuneral.com for the Porat family.
