John Osbourne Woodsome, III, 88, of Granby, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020, at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Detroit, MI on March 19, 1932, John moved to Shelburne Falls, MA with his family as a young boy and was a graduate of Arms Academy, Class of 1950. After high school, John was accepted at Middlebury College in Vermont but later transferre­d to the University of Massachuse­tts where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Dorothy Jean Woodsome, 91, of Granby, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in Avon. Born in Greenfield, MA on February 17, 1932, daughter of the late Leslie R. and Hazel (Davenport) Ormond, Dorothy was raised in Shelburne Falls, MA and was a graduate of Arms Academy, Class of 1950. After high school, Dorothy completed her education at Northampto­n Commercial College. While growing up in Shelburne Falls, MA, John and Dorothy met and shortly after they graduated from high school the young couple was married at the age of 19 on February 2, 1932 in Shelburne Falls. John continued his education at the University of Massachuse­tts receiving a degree in accounting while Dorothy worked. They leave three sons, William S. Woodsome and his wife Deborah of North Granby, Thomas A. Woodsome and his wife Teresa of Bristol, and Robert J. Woodsome and his significan­t other, Deanne M. Gage of Fairfield, ME; John's sister, Marian Woodsome, and her significan­t other John Ludwig of Boothbay, ME; six grandchild­ren; eleven great-grandchild­ren; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predecease­d by a brother, Robert Ormond; and a sister, Betty Broadhurst. Their family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 17, 4-7 p.m., at the HayesHulin­g & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, April 8, 9:30 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church St., Tariffvill­e. A graveside service for Dorothy and John will follow at the columbariu­m in Granby Cemetery. The family would like to thank all the caring staff at Avon Health Center and of the Farmington Valley Nursing Associatio­n Hospice Care Team.
