Yale tops Cornell, will face Princeton for Ivy League title, NCAA tourney bid

PRINCETON, N.J. — John Poulakidas had 25 points in Yale's 80-60 win against Cornell on Saturday in the Ivy League Tournament semifinals.

The Elis, the top seed in the four-team tournament, will face No. 2 Princeton on Sunday at noon for the Ivy title and automatic NCAA Tournament bid. The teams finished tied for first-place in the regular season.

Yale is the defending Ivy tournament champion, defeating Princeton 66-64 in 2022.

Poulakidas had seven reboundsan­dfiveassis­tsfor the Bulldogs (21-7). August Mahoney added 18 points while going 6 of 9 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from distance, and 2-for-3 from the line, and he also had three steals. Bez Mbeng recorded 13 points and shot 6 of 9 from the field.

The Big Red (17-11) were led by Guy Ragland Jr., who posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Chris Manon added 12 points and five steals.

In the later game, Tosan Evbuomwan had 21 points in Princeton's win over Pennsylvan­ia. Evbuomwan also had six rebounds for the Tigers (20-8). Caden Pierce scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Zach Martini finished 4 of 6 from 3-point range to finish with 12 points.

The Quakers (17-13) were led by Jordan Dingle, who recorded 19 points, six assists and two steals. Clark Slajchert added 17 points and two steals for Pennsylvan­ia. In addition, Nick Spinoso had 15 points and eight rebounds. The Quakers' loss ended their eightgame winning streak.

Evbuomwan scored 10 points in the first half and Princeton went into halftime trailing 31-30. Evbuomwan scored 11 second-half points and Princeton secured the victory after a second half that saw seven lead changes and was tied five times.
