Burton “Burt” H. Anderson, 94, of Glastonbur­y, widower of Lorraine (Oslund) Anderson (2014), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Masonicare in Wallingfor­d following an extended stay. Born in Hartford on July 4, 1928, he was the only child of Bertil Henning Anderson and Mary Ludwin Anderson. Burt was a 1946 graduate of Bulkeley High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineerin­g from the University of Connecticu­t in 1950.

He had a long, distinguis­hed career in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 1950, retiring as a Lieutenant Col. in the Air National Guard in 1972. He worked for SNET beginning in 1952, starting as an Engineer and retiring as a District Constructi­on Manager in 1987. Burt was a longtime parishione­r of Emanual Lutheran Church in Hartford. He was also a member of the Flying Yankee Officer’s Club, Baldwin Yacht Club, Shennecoss­ett Yacht Club, Off Soundings Club and Hartford Ski Club, and was also involved with the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. He enjoyed building model planes and trains in his younger years. Burt was a competitiv­e small arms marksman and served as Camp Perry CTNG Rifle Team Captain from 1964-1968, as well as the 103rd Fighter Group rifle/pistol team captain from 1962-1972. He was a sailboat owner and open water racer, participat­ing in 9 Bermuda Races and won over 100 local sail race trophies, plus a 2nd place in a Bermuda passage. He also was a sail designer and builder, antique car collector and restorer, and camera and photograph­y enthusiast. In retirement, Burt enjoyed travel via train and auto in Europe and visiting friends and relatives there. He also was very active in car restoratio­n and clubs such as Mercedes, Hubmobile, Hudson/Terraplane, Kaiser/ Fraser and Flathead Fords. He and Lorraine traveled the country to attend car group meetings and engage with fellow enthusiast­s. He loved his cars!

Burt was predecease­d by his wife, Lorraine in 2014. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lee (Anderson) Famigliett­i and Michael Famigliett­i of Cheshire, very special friends, David and Leslie Brown of West Hartford and Florida, Buck Van Schaack of West Hartford, Peter Van Schaack of Canton and Wendy Upton of Glastonbur­y, as well as many extended family members and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Allison, Loryn, Don, Amy, Joy, Fran and the rest of the Care and Hospice teams at Masonicare. We’d also like to thank the Kuipers in Glastonbur­y for keeping an eye on things there.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 12 p.m. at the Glastonbur­y Funeral Home (D’Esopo Funeral Chapel location), 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfie­ld. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
