Katherine (Ducharme) Doyle, born December 20, 1938, passed away in her home on March 20, 2023. Katherine was the seventh child and daughter of Nelson and Helen Ducharme Bailey.

Kay, or Katie to many, lived in West Hartford her whole life, attending William Hall High School and graduating from the University of Hartford with a degree in Medical Technology. There, she met her husband Joseph Doyle who Kay credits with,” bringing the world to her”. They married in 1973 and traveled to Portugal, England, France, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Tahiti and the Bahamas. She also made multiple trips to Alaska and Kenya making her second trip to Kenya in 2013 at age 75. There, she was unphased and climbed into a hot air balloon which rose high above the Masai Mara National Reserve. In her eighties Kay took up the ukulele and joined a gym where she worked out every week until just a few weeks ago.

Katherine retired after 37 years as a Clinical Microbiologist at Hartford Hospital. She spent her retirement years between West Hartford and Charlestown, RI where, until recently, she enjoyed her cottage close to the shore.

Kay loved all animals great and small. She owned a horse named Gypsy, many cats and her beloved Portuguese Water Dogs, Ramos and Jaco.

Kay was predeceased by her parents, husband Joe and 4 sisters: Shirley Deasy, Dorothy Ann Lavieri, Jeanne Ducharme and Mary Ellen Holt. She is survived by two sisters, Nanette Lavieri and Blanche Deasy, her step-children Allen and Valentine Doyle as well as 21 nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Kay has chosen not to have a traditional funeral or Memorial service. Instead, she invites her family and friends to enjoy listening to and viewing an orchestra perform the “Berlioz Requiem” which is a piece of music she deeply enjoyed and wished to share with those that loved her. Please join us at the Unitarian Church of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Avenue, on April 22, 2023 at 11:00am.

There are no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Cove Center for Grieving Children, 1113 S. Main Street A, Cheshire, CT 06410. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at www. molloyfuneralhome.com
