Joseph “Joey” Lee Williams, formerly of Hartford, Windsor, Wethersfie­ld, and Simsbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Lee was born on March 27, 1930, in Bridgeport, CT, the only child of the late James Howard Williams and Anna (Lee) Williams, and was the husband of the late Janet (Linden) Williams, who passed in 2015. He attended Weaver High School in Hartford, where he was a talented and enthusiast­ic Shortstop on the high school baseball team, and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. Lee retired in 1986 after a long career at the Southern New England Telephone Company and, through the years, was active in American Legion Baseball and the Windsor VFW Post 4740. Lee was an avid golfer, a fan of UCONN Women's basketball, and loved spending time in Vermont and on Cape Cod. For over 40 years, he served as patriarch and principal golfer of The Lee Family Golf Tournament, winning the trophy in 1982 with a score of 82. Lee will truly be missed and leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Lee is survived by his four children, Leanne Costello and her husband Daniel, Frank Williams, Ron Williams and his wife Susan, and Brian Williams and his wife Julie Duguay; his grandchild­ren, Joseph Williams and Kelsey Williams; step-grandson, Daniel Costello, Jr.; and many dear family members and friends. He was predecease­d by his partner and best friend, Judy Lissie. His family would like to thank his “second family” at the Virginia Connolly Residence in Simsbury who made his last nine years so wonderful, and staff at Meadowbroo­k of Granby and Athena Hospice for their kind support and compassion­ate care at the end of dad's journey. His family will receive friends on Friday, March 31, 11 a.m.-12 p.m., with Military Honors and a Prayer Service starting at 12 p.m., at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. Burial will be private.
