Albert Oscar Fillmore, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, after a 9 day stay, surrounded by his family.

Born in Hartford, CT on September 27, 1930, son of the late Earl Fillmore and Bernice Norris Fillmore, he grew up in a dysfunctional family and relied on the kindness of strangers, like the milkman who would knock on his bedroom window early in the morning, pay him for his work, and make sure he had breakfast before dropping him at school. Albert learned from those gestures and was very kind to all he met throughout his lifetime. He met his first wife, and the mother of his children, Dorothy (Podann) Fillmore, at Leper Printing in Hartford where he learned the trade of offset printing while still in high school. They had four children and were married for 28 years. His second wife was Barbara Caravello Fillmore, and they were married for 22 years. Albert worked for Connecticut General Life Insurance Company for 35 years as a Master Printer and Print Buyer, retiring at the age of 55, shortly after CIGNA took over. Except for a short time in the south end of Hartford when first married, and East Windsor during his second marriage, he had been a Bloomfield resident during his adult life. He worked part time for many years for Wurdig's Holiday Acres as Wedding Emcee and Coordinator. Albert was a loving father, and the “Neighborhood Dad,” organizing baseball games at the park and encouraging all the kids to play in his yard. He was a Little League Coach, Bloomfield Legionette and Emerald Sabers Color Guard parent, and a Duckpin bowler and Softball player for both church and insurance leagues. Albert was an avid sports fan and really loved the Boston Red Sox. In his later years, he loved playing Wii bowling and Bingo at the Bloomfield Senior Center and also volunteered as a guide at Bloomfield Town Hall.

Al leaves to mourn, his significant other, Druscilla Williams, with whom he made his home on Bestor Lane; his daughters, Donna L. Hubbs and her husband Dennis of Bloomfield, and Jennifer L. Berry of Rochester, NH; his son, Jeffrey P. Fillmore and his wife Laura Gonzalez Fillmore of Derry, NH; his grandchildren, Jenny Culin and her husband Kristopher of Bristol, CT, Steven A Hubbs and his wife Kristin of East Montpelier, VT, Jaime Berry McCauley and her partners Christopher and Katie McCauley, and Melanie Berry Lindgren and her husband Michael, all of Rochester, NH; his great grandchildren, Natalie Jane and Malcolm Andrew Hubbs, Jaidyn Henry Lindgren and Fion and Declan McCauley; and his niece, Patti Fillmore Larson of Richmond, VA.

Al was predeceased by his parents; both wives; his daughter, Leslie A. Fillmore; his brother and his wife, Robert and Rita Fillmore; their son, Bobby Fillmore; and his sister, her husband, and their children, Barbara Fillmore Zolenski, Frank Zolenski, and Bernice and Francis Zolenski.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 20, 11 a.m., at First Congregational Church, 10 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to either Mission Development at First Congregational Church or Bloomfield Senior Center are welcomed.
