Luxury Home Under Construction in Avon

- By James Alexander

This modern colonial home being built in Avon’s exclusive Weatherstone community represents a rare opportunity. While construction has advanced to the point that the framing, sheathing and roof are completed, a buyer who acts quickly will still be able to specify the interior finishes, trim, kitchen appliances, and cabinets in this home. For one fortunate buyer, this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a luxury home with an interior that reflects their good taste, down to the last detail.

And, they can have it quickly. Since the time consuming process of excavation, pouring the foundation, and erecting the basic structure of the home has been completed, this home is expected to be ready for occupancy this summer.

“We call it a ‘Quick Delivery’ home,” said Scott Glenney, who will be handling the sale. “‘Quick Delivery,’ however, does not mean that there is any compromise on quality,” he added, noting that the builder, Paul Magro’s Dream Builders LLC, has developed a stellar reputation for delivering consistently high quality homes.

Located at 368 Northington Drive, this modern colonial will welcome visitors with a wide covered front porch. Once inside, the open floor plan flows smoothly to a family room that is open to a large and inviting eat-in kitchen. In addition to a large pantry, the kitchen has ample room for meal preparation involving several chefs, with space left over for comfortable informal dining. Large gatherings will be easily accommodated in these areas while the formal dining room can be reached directly from the kitchen or entry foyer. This openness will impart a feeling of space that is enhanced by nine-foot first floor ceilings.

For a buyer who works from home, the first floor has an additional attraction. It includes a den or home office just off the entry foyer. This makes it possible to hold in-person business meetings without having a client or associate go through the entire house. This home office even has immediate access to a full private bath. As a result, “There is flexibility for this to be a sixth bedroom on the first floor,” said Glenney. “It could be a guest bedroom, an in-law suite or an office.” As an added feature, the office, kitchen, and family room, look out on the backyard, which abuts an Avon conservation land trust area. This heavily wooded land beyond the backyard adds to the sense of privacy this home will enjoy.

Five bedrooms are on the second floor. The highlight is the primary suite, which includes a large sleeping area with more views of the backyard and the conservation land trust area. A large private bath has a soaking tub, separate shower, and a private room for the commode. A walk-in closet that is larger than many bedrooms completes this suite. The other four bedrooms are spacious, with two of them featuring a private bath. The other two bedrooms have a shared bathroom. The second floor also has the laundry room.

This home features an oversized three bay garage that accesses the home through a mudroom that is next to the kitchen. This mudroom also has a door that leads to the driveway. This is ideal for a quick run for the paper, walking the dog, or getting the kids to the bus stop without going through the garage. A half bath completes the first floor.

A staircase from the first floor leads to the walk-out basement, which can also be reached by a second set of stairs in the garage. The basement’s nine-foot ceiling opens many possibilities for people who might wish to finish this area. There should be more than enough space for a recreation room, large workshop, or any number of other possibilities. Roughed-in plumbing for a future bathroom downstairs significantly broadens these options.

The location of this new home has to be considered ideal. It is close to the centers of Canton and Avon in one direction, and to the Unionville business hub of Farmington when traveling in the other direction. Each of these areas offers an extensive array of shopping, services and eateries. Also nearby are a golf course, public swimming pool, tennis courts, and excellent public and private schools.

Numerous employers are also located in the immediate area.

The homes in the Weatherstone development are timeless and stately. Their visual appeal is enhanced by their setback from the street, the consistency of their architectural details, and nearby woods with hiking trails and other recreational opportunities. Even the intersections add to the neighborhood’s appeal. Glenney credits what he calls “medallions.” These are small islands with fruit trees that are about to come into bloom. In addition to adding an aesthetically pleasing touch, these medallions also slow traffic at intersections, Glenney said.

He noted, too, that the neighborhood is friendly. “You almost always see people out walking their dogs,” he said. These pedestrians often smile and wave as people drive by.

For buyers with more time to complete a home, a very limited number of undeveloped building lots are available with either a semi- or full custom-build potential. For buyers interested in this option, “We have access to hundreds of different plans,” Glenney said.

“The demand for homes like this is high and the inventory is low,” Glenney said. That makes the availability of new homes in Weatherstone even more attractive, especially this featured home that is expected to be ready by July.
