Martinook, Paul D.

-

Paul D. Martinook, 95, of Newington, passed away peacefully in his home on April 26, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Elinor (Pragluski) Martinook for 68 years. Paul was born in New Britain on December 4, 1927, son of the late Ignatz and Vera (Horachko) Martinook. He graduated from New Britain High School, Class of 1945. Paul joined the US Army after high school and served his country honorably. He went on to a long, successful career as a truck driver; he was very proud to have been a part of construction projects throughout New Britain and Hartford. Paul spent his retirement years repairing bicycles and donating them to the Boys and Girls Club of New Britain for their Christmas parties. It was his way of giving back to the club he spent many years in growing up. Paul loved animals and always threw birdseed for the chipmunks and birds he enjoyed to watch. He looked forward to the morning paper every day; he liked working on the crossword puzzles and Sudoku up until a week before he passed. Paul was a devout member of Holy Spirit Church in Newington and a member of the Bucks and Does Square Dance Club for 30 years. Paul and Elinor are now square dancing together again.

Paul is survived by his nephews David, Richard, and Michael Martinook, Kevin Bobrowski, and William Pragluski; nieces Pamela Bobrowski, Mary Ann Troy, Arlene Belliveau, Patricia Hermanowski, and Donna Marks. He is also survived by his godchild Rita Hurley, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Paul was predeceased by his brothers Daniel and Gus Martinook; sisters Helen Dobek and Olga Doucette; brother-in-law William Pragluski; and godchild Cindy Troy.

Paul's family would like to extend a very special thank you to Ilona, Dominika, and Elizabeth for their excellent care in helping Paul remain at home. His family truly appreciates all the time and care given to Paul by Gail Stewart, RN and Dr. Margaret Rathier from the Newington VA.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mass of Christian Burial for Paul on Wednesday, May 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Church, Newington. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church.
