Doucette, Eli A.
Eli A. Doucette, 93, of Simsbury, CT died peacefully at McLean Health Center in Simsbury surrounded by his family on April 26, 2023. For 68 years, “Al” was the loving husband of Marilyn D. Doucette who predeceased him on February 9, 2023. Born in Hamlin, ME on July 12, 1929 to the late Paul and Clara (Levasseur) Doucette, Al was raised on the family's farm in Maine before moving to CT where he completed his education. He was a proud Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army after which time he began his long career with Sheet Metal Union Local 40. Al was known for his specialty copper work which included the cupola of the Heublein Tower in the Talcott Mountain State Park. He enjoyed music, particularly playing his trumpet, and in his younger years could be heard serenading the neighborhood when the windows were open. Together with Marilyn, Al took pride in his gardens and most of all, in his family. He was a humble & kind man who practiced his faith by example every day of his life. He is survived by his daughter, Darlene Ross (Peter) of New Hartford, CT along with his three loving grandchildren; Adam Ross (Beth) of Prospect, CT, Megan Balderston (Billy) of Milton, GA and Caitlin Ross of St. Petersburg, FL. His four great-grandchildren were the joy of his life: Emma Ross, Blair Balderston, Brooke Balderston & William “Bo” Balderston. In addition, Al leaves behind many nieces and nephews who brought him much happiness. Al was predeceased by each of his siblings: his brothers Raymond Doucette & Roland Doucette, his sisters Mary Jane Violette, Germaine Pelletier, Hilda Faucher, Sister Simmone Doucette, & Delia Chasse. The family would like to thank McLean Hospice as well as the teams on both Chapel Crossing and Evergreen for their care and compassion. To honor his lifelong interest in music, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eli A. Doucette to The Simsbury Community Band; P.O. Box 201, Simsbury, CT 06070. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 4th, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT. Burial will follow at the Simsbury Cemetery on Plank Hill Rd.
