Doncet, James W.

-

James “Jimmy” William Doncet, 75, of Plainville CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday April 18, 2023. Jimmy treasured all 53 years of marriage to the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Brenda (Rich) Doncet. He was raised in Pittsfield, Maine, where he graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1965. He graduated from Beal Business College in 1968, and then moved to Connecticut in 1971 where he and Brenda raised their family. He spent 40 years working in the IT department at Aetna Life and Casualty, making many lasting friendships before retiring in 2008.

Jimmy was generous with his time and always willing to give someone a helping hand, no matter how big or small the project was. There wasn't an engine (car, boat, or lawnmower) that he wasn't willing to tinker on to fix; “I can fix that” was his motto! He enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking, and he loved building and playing with his RC boats, planes, and cars. He especially loved spending time at their camp on Great Moose Lake in Maine. In 2010, they started his dream and rebuilt their camp to hold their growing family. He put his love into every nail he pounded to create a lasting haven for his family. Jim and Brenda enjoyed leisurely boat rides, sitting on the deck watching the water and the birds. They also enjoyed attending area church suppers in Maine.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Marie Doncet, and his brother Derek. He is survived by his wife Brenda, his sons Adam (Tricia), Jonathan (Diana), Michael (Amanda), and his daughter Sara (Greg) Fearn. He will be missed dearly by his eight grandchildren - Joshua, Zachary, Abigail, Glenn, Owen, Noah, Mia, and Luke. He also leaves behind his sister Denise (Mike) McEwen, his cousins John Alward and Willie Cole, and his extended family and friends. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday May 6, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 90 Church Ave, Bristol, CT. Memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children (lovetotherescue.org)
