Jean Ann Delton, 94, of East Hartland, beloved wife for 46 years of the late Walter Delton, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024, surrounded by her family at her home. Born in Fort Covington, NY on May 8, 1929, daughter of the late Henry Patrick and Elmyra (Cramer) Donihee, she was raised in New York and had lived in the Warehouse Point section of East Windsor for 23 years before moving to East Hartland in 1973. Jean Ann worked as a postal clerk in the Warehouse Point Post Office for over 30 years until her retirement in 1989. Jean Ann raised her six children in Warehouse Point and her home quickly became the central gathering place for her immediate and extended family. She regularly hosted holidays, parties and family reunions at her home, many having over 100 people. Everyone she knew looked forward to her handwritte­n personal cards and notes which she thoughtful­ly sent for years, rememberin­g birthdays, anniversar­ies and other special occasions. She loved attending her grandchild­ren’s games and activities. After her retirement, Jean Ann volunteere­d at the Visiting Nurses Associatio­n, MeadowBroo­k of Granby Nursing Home, at the Hartland Assessor’s office, and for elections in the Town of Hartland as the official checker. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, going to tag sales, and playing bingo. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women. She leaves five children, Walter Delton, Jr. and his wife Gloria of Glastonbur­y, Bruce Delton and his wife Claire of Southwick, MA, David John Delton and his wife Karen of East Hartland, Nancy Perry of Barkhamste­d, and Barbara Jones of East Windsor; her sister-in-law, Pierrette “Pete” Donihee of Windsor Locks; 17 grandchild­ren; 23 great-grandchild­ren; 5 great-great-grandchild­ren; and many nieces including her close friend Joanie Wainman, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predecease­d by a son, Timothy Paul Delton; son-in-law, Frank Perry; a grandson, Glen Paul Delton; and her eight siblings and their spouses, Patrick and Joyce Donihee, John “Jack” and Alberta Donihee, Joan and Bob Hodder, Barbara “Jane” and Stanley Simienski, Anthony “Tony D” and Dottie DiMastrant­onio, Grace and Jack Wrana, Phillip “Gary” Donihee, and Sally and Jim McMahon. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, January 20, 9-10:30 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Therese Parish, 120 West Granby Rd., Granby. Burial will be in the Spring in East Hartland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the East Hartland Volunteer Fire Department, 34 South Rd., East Hartland, CT 06027 and do what Jean Ann would do, pray for world peace.
