Robert L. “Bob” Zawadski, 92, of East Granby, beloved husband of Lorraine (Langan) Zawadski, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2024, after a short illness with his family by his side. He was born July 29, 1931, in New London, the son of the late John and Mary (Ruffino) Zawadski. Bob grew up in Bloomfield, where he excelled in many sports while in school. After high school, Bob married Lorraine and they moved to East Granby, where they raised their two children, John and Lori, where they lived for 60 years. Bob was an involved father, putting on many plays for the EGHS Seniors during the years his children attended school. Bob was employed by Hartford Special Machinery in Simsbury for 32 years. He then went to work for Windsor Marketing Group in Windsor Locks for the next 15 years full time and 19 years part time, finally officially retiring at age 84. Bob was a member of Saint Bernard's Church in Tariffvill­e where he and Lorraine assisted the parsonage every Monday for many years. He was an avid bowler and fisherman. For more than 60 years, he enjoyed vacations at Clinton Beach and Hawk's Nest Beach with his family. He spent his Sundays watching the Red Sox, UCONN basketball, golf and horse racing. Bob was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 70 years, Lorraine and his two devoted children, John (Judy) Zawadski and Lori (John) Boscarino. Besides being a loving husband and father, Bob was a wonderful grandfathe­r. He was known as Poppy to his pride and joy, 5 grandsons (and the 5 granddaugh­ters, they brought into his life), Adam (Alisa), Robert (Lauren), Eric (Lea), David (Erin), Jordan (Lori). In 2017 Bob became “Big Poppy” to his great grandchild­ren, Odin and Atlas Zawadski, and Lucille and Lena Boscarino. This new generation filled his heart with love and laughter and they adored him. Bob also leaves his best buddy, Al Lyons, who enriched his life during these last four years. Bob was predecease­d by his sister Anne (Robert) Fitzgerald, his brother John (Germaine) Zawadski, his fishing pal and nephew, Ken Zawadski, his niece, Cheryl Zawadski, his brother-inlaw Raymond Langan and his nephew, Andrew Langan. He was also predecease­d by his extended family Paul, Butch and Rose Ruffino. His family would also like to thank St Francis Hospital ICU for the tender loving care they gave Bob during his final days. Bob's big outgoing personalit­y made him friends wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Bob's family will receive friends on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 4-7PM at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 11AM at Carmon's. Visitation will take place again on Monday prior to the service from 10-11AM.
