Devonwood home in Farmington is spacious and comfortable
In many ways, this home at 3 Belgravia Terrace in the highly sought after Devonwood community in Farmington offers an attractive and appealing update on the traditional center hall colonial. Sited on a large level lot and surrounded by mature trees, it offers plenty of space inside and out for comfortable living. Yet there are also areas, both within its walls and outside in the yard, that allow for privacy.
A tour starts outside the home. Here first impressions are bolstered by the large landscaped front yard and the arched window array on the left side of the frontal facade. This home definitely has curb appeal. A driveway on the right side leads to the three-car garage and affords ample space for off-street parking when entertaining large gatherings.
Beyond the front door is an entry hall with a handsome set of finely crafted stairs to the second floor and a shadow boxing detail below a chair rail. The hardwood flooring seen here extends throughout the first floor. Access to the formal living room is on the left, while the dining room is on the right.
French doors lead to the dining room on the right side of the entry foyer. Shadow boxing below a chair rail complements the crown molding and decorative chandelier, while a large window overlooks the front yard. “The home has a nice circular flow,” observed Christy Muller of William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, who is the agent handling the sale. It can easily accommodate large gatherings, yet it is also well suited for smaller parties and daily living.
The kitchen will inevitably serve as the center of activity in the home. Here there is ample space for the chef and several helpers to work without getting in the way of each other. A large island holds the electric cooktop with the other stainless steel appliances logically placed along the outer walls. The counters are granite while the flooring is more of the handsome
The kitchen also features space for a table to handle informal dining, with a chandelier over it for lighting. This space flows nicely into the sitting area off the living room where bookshelves and cabinets for storage are built in on either side of the fireplace. Crown molding and the trim surrounding the fireplace add a touch of elegance. The opening to the family room-sunroom is defined by a split half-wall with decorative columns. The sunroom’s many windows help keep the sitting room area bright on a sunny day. It is a design that is exceptionally pleasing.
The other three bedrooms are nicely sized and share a bath. The study on this floor can be used for a wide range of activities. Consider it a “flex” room.
The hardwood floors throughout the first floor add warmth to any decor, while on the second floor the bedrooms feature new carpeting. The second floor hall has new hardwood flooring. “It’s a light, bright home that is very pretty,” Muller said. It is also ideally located. Belgravia Terrace is just off Route 10 and is close to businesses and services in Avon and Farmington. It is also close to I-84, Farmington Avenue, West Hartford Center, and the University of Connecticut Health Center. Numerous recreational opportunities are also nearby, including facilities for golf, tennis, swimming, and equestrian activities.
Perhaps the best summation of what is like to live in this home comes from the current owners who have written, “We have been here almost 20 years and enjoyed every minute of it. It’s a wonderful neighborhood and has been a great place for our family. The adjacency to Winding Trails and all of the walking paths make it ideal if you enjoy the outdoors. It is the perfect place to make life-long friends and take advantage of all Devonwood has to offer: a strong sense of community with plenty of recreational opportunities and proximity to amenities.” In other words, this sounds like an ideal home in an ideal location.
