Kohl scores 37 to lead Central

Huge second half carries Blue Devils to a win in opener

Tyler Kohl had a gamehigh 37 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists as Central Connecticu­t State opened its 2018-19 season on Tuesday night with a 75-68 win over Hartford in New Britain.

After trailing by four at the half, the Blue Devils outscored the Hawks 39-28 in the second to nail down the win.

Center Deion Bute had 15 points and 11 rebounds for CCSU, and Joe Hugley came off the bench to add11.

George Blagojevic led Hartford with19 points, and added six rebounds and four assists. Jason Dunne had 13 points and Travis Weathering­ton 12.

Holy Cross 93, Sacred Heart 81: At Worcester, guard Austin Butler led all scorers with 26 points as the Crusaders beat the Pioneers in the opening game for both teams.

Patrick Benzan added 19 points for Holy Cross. Sean Hoehn led Sacred Heart with 26 points and Koreem Ozier had 23.

Purdue 90, Fairfield 57: At West Lafayette, Ind., guard Carsen Edwards scored 30 points in 28 minutes to lead the No. 22 Boilermake­rs over the visiting Stags in the seasonopen­ing game for both teams.

Guard Neftali Alvarez led the Stags with 16 points. Jonathan Kasibabu had 14 points.

Women

Brown, 68, Central 65: After controllin­g the lead for most of the game, Central got into foul trouble down the stretch, giving Brown 22 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter of the opener for both teams in Providence.

Kiana Patterson led CCSU with 21 points, going 9-22 from the floor.

Justine Gaziano led Brown with 27 points.
