Hand’s Butler, Simsbury’s Bedson at top of honor roll
Eight running backs made this week’s Fab 15, as there were four separate 200-yard rushers.
A trio of Stafford/Somers/East Windsor players made the weekly honor roll after a 21-0 shutout win over Ellington to clinch the Pequot Uncas title. Familiar faces in Southington’s Jacob Drena, New Britain’s Shawn Robinson and East Hartford’s Raquan Tompkins are back on the Fab 15 as well.
Ian Butler, DB, Hand-Madison: Butler posted four tackles, a tackle for loss, an interception and a receiving touchdown in No. 1/2 Hand’s 49-14 win over Cheshire.
Mark Bedson, RB, Simsbury: Bedson racked up 252 yards on 32 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 34-19 win over Manchester.
Aaron Simmons, WR, Sheehan: The senior wide receiver was a model for efficiency, as all three of his receptions went for touchdowns in Sheehan’s 47-12 win over Bassick.
Julien Rivas, RB, Stafford/ Somers/East Windsor: Rivas rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ 21-0 win over Ellington.
Kody Messier, DE, Stafford/Somers/East Windsor: Messier made 10 tackles, recovered a fumble and sacked the quarterback twice in a 21-0 win over Ellington.
Johnny Kopek, LB, Stafford/Somers/East Windsor: Kopek posted10 tackles and three sacks in No. 8 Stafford/Somers/East Windsor’s shutout win.
Jacob Drena, QB, Southington: Drena threw for 290 yards on 17-for-22 passing, and four touchdowns in No. 2/6 Southington’s 51-19 win over Enfield.
Isaac Riley, DE, Northwest Catholic: Riley made 13 tackles and sacked the quarterback twice in Northwest Catholic’s 28-6 win over Bulkeley/ HMTCA/Weaver.
Alex Halkias, RB, Berlin: Halkias scored No. 3/8 Berlin’s first two touchdowns in its 37-0 win over No. 9 Bloomfield. He rushed for 150 yards and two scores.
Marco Scarano, RB/DE, Berlin: Scarano made eight tackles, one sack, and rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown in No. 3/8 Berlin’s 37-0 win over No. 9 Bloomfield.
Miguel Gonzalez, RB, Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby: Gonzalez scored four touchdowns in Windsor Locks/ Suffield/East Granby’s 41-20 win over Windham Tech/Bolton/Lyman Memorial.
Landis Twomey, RB, Old Saybrook/Westbrook: Twomey rushed for 133 yards and three second-half touchdowns in Old Saybrook/Westbrook’s 34-8 win over North Branford.
Shawn Robinson, RB, New Britain: Robinson rushed for 271 yards and three scores in No. 4/10 New Britain’s 63-26 win over No. 10 East Hartford.
Raquan Tompkins, QB, East Hartford: In a loss to No. 4/10 New Britain, Tompkins rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns, and threw for 109 yards. He made 13 tackles on defense, too.
Nehemiah Brown, RB, Vinal Tech/Goodwin/ Whitney: Brown, the state’s leading rusher, carried the ball 17 times for 211 yards in a 28-14 win over Prince Tech.
