Turkey and Thirty campaign on again this year
BLOOMFIELD – Foodshare is launching its annual Turkey and Thirty campaign to provide traditional Thanksgiving meals to needy families and raise money to fight hunger throughout the year.
In Hartford and Tolland counties, where Foodshare operates, 121,000 people struggle with hunger, according to the organization.
Working with the food industry and donors, Foodshare last year distributed nearly 12 million meals worth of food to a network of 300 local food pantries, meal programs and mobile sites.
How many turkeys does Foodshare need?
The Bloomfield-based organization has set a goal of 15,621 turkeys to meet requests from local food pantries.
Can I make a monetary donation?
Yes. Foodshare is also trying to raise more than $486,000 to combat hunger in the next year.
Where are donations collected?
Foodshare's first of many community donation events will be held at the Hartford Seminary in Hartford on Nov. 12.
What’s the deadline?
To guarantee that turkeys reach tables by Thanksgiving, donations are needed by Nov. 20 at Foodshare or one of its community donation sites.
