Morin beat Hurley 6,563 votes to

4,866 votes. Morin acknowledged on Facebook that

Hurley had visited campaign headquarters on Tuesday night to concede the race.

“We worked so hard since the beginning of August knocking on doors and meeting voters. To come up with a victory feels good. I appreciate all the hard work my volunteers did to get me there, as well,” Morin said.

Morin was first elected to the seat in 2006, making this the seventh term he will serve in the legislature. He has served as a deputy speaker of the House and sat on the Finance, Transportation, Commerce and Legislative Management committees, according to his General Assembly biography.

“I am looking forward to building on a lot of things we’ve done. The last couple of years we worked across the aisle to come up with a budget. I look forward to working with Democrats and Republicans on the budget issues we have to get the state moving forward,” Morin said.

A long-time Wethersfield resident, Morin attended public schools in town and previously served on the town council and as mayor. He and his wife raised three children in town, he said.

According to his biography, he was trained and works as a chef.

His career as an elected official in town dates back to 1995, when he was first elected to the Wethersfield board of education. He later filled a vacancy on the town council in 1996.
