Ford’s 2021 F-150
The Ford F-Series trucks are the nation’s most popular vehicle, so a great deal is riding on the success of its redesign for 2021. Last week Ford took more of the wraps off this coming model in an official reveal that told us as much about the changing environment in which vehicles are sold as the vehicle itself.
While engine power, towing and work capabilities were mentioned, these were detailed only after new levels of connectivity and passenger cabin upgrades were highlighted. Among the cabin features are available front seats that turn into sleeper beds and an available center console that can be turned into a flat work surface. Doing this requires folding the shift lever forward and unfolding the center armrest to create a desk-like surface between the front seats. A 12-inch touch screen in the center of the instrument panel was also touted in the presentation. Contractors should find the optional built-in 7.2 kW electric power source an attractive upgrade, eliminating the need to carry a generator to worksites. A full hybrid powertrain will be offered and a fully electric F-150 was promised in two years.
