Haven Hot Chicken brings the heat, Nashville style
Collaborating partners excited to get started in ‘serious foodie destination’
Haven Hot Chicken, featuring Nashville-style fried chicken, opens Oct. 17 at 21 Whitney Ave. in New Haven. The restaurant, focusing on takeout and delivery, will be the city’s first eatery dedicated to Nashville hot chicken.
Chicken and “not chicken” (a vegetarian cauliflower option) will be prepared with five different spice levels, from no-heat “country” to “haven,” served with caution. Menu items include sandwiches with fried chicken or cauliflower, a trio of tenders with choice of sauce, “tendie roulette,” with 5 tenders featuring each level of spice; and snacks like sliders, fried cauliflower florets and loaded “fuego fries.”
Sides include French fries, collard greens, cole slaw and garlic-dill pickles, and desserts include banana pudding and soft-serve ice cream. Menu items are $3.99 to $17.99, and box meals, serving up to 12 people, are $51.99 to $95.99.
Haven Hot Chicken is a collaboration between four partners: Rob LaTronica, formerly of Wheeler’s and The Beer Collective; Craig Sklar, owner of The Beer Collective; Jason Sobocinski, of Caseus, Ordinary and The Stack; and Etkin Tekin, a founder of The Little Salad Shop.
“New Haven has long been regarded as a serious foodie destination and we’re excited to join the ranks of so many accomplished brands,” said LaTronica, whohoned his recipe through “hundreds” of tests and several trips to Nashville.
A restaurant initiative, One Percent for the People, will contribute 1% of all profits to focus on equality. Local organizations will be selected on a monthly basis to receive donations, and customers are encouraged to participate with suggestions.
Haven Hot Chicken will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., soon expanding to 7 days a week. Online ordering is available on Haven’s website and also via SnackPass and UberEats.
