Van Noy returning to Pats after year with Dolphins

-

Linebacker Kyle Van Noy is returning to the New England Patriots after one year with the Miami Dolphins.

Van Noy confirmed reports that he was returning to Foxborough on a two-year, $13 million deal in a short video posted on Twitter.

“Pats Nation, I’m back. Let’s get it!” Van Noy said in the video, which also featured an image of the Patriots team logo.

New England also continued to add depth to its run defense by reaching an agreement with former Packers defensive end Montravius Adams. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed that the one-year contract has a maximum value of $2.5 million. Adams appeared in 45 games in four seasons for Green Bay, with 44 tackles and 1 ½ sacks.

Van Noy joined the Patriots in 2016 after spending his first two NFL seasons in Detroit. He came into his own over the next three seasons, with 16 ½ sacks, starting 43 games and becoming an integral part of a New England defense that shined on the way to Super Bowl wins in the 2016 and 2018 seasons. Chung retires: Saying “it’s time to start a new life,” New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung announced Thursday he is retiring from the NFL after 11 seasons and three Super Bowl rings.

In an Instagram post, the 33-year-old thanked coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft for drafting him out of Oregon in 2009.

“I’m in tears writing this, but I’ve decided to hang up the cleats,” Chung wrote. “Bill, for teaching me life on and off the field, I will not forget that.”

Giants: TE Rudolph signs

New York signed veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph on Thursday to a two-year contract worth up to $14 million, a source told the New York Daily News.

Rudolph, 31, a career Minnesota Viking until his release in early March, is surehanded, well-rounded and durable.

He has 48 career touchdown catches, a Vikings franchise record for tight ends. He has 73 catches and zero drops on 90 targets the past two seasons. Rudolph is a capable and willing blocker and has played in 92 of the Vikings’ 96 regular season games since the start of the 2015 season.

The two-time Pro Bowler is a strong addition to the Giants on the field and in the locker room. Hecan chip in on special teams. He is active in the community.

Meanwhile, a person with knowledge of the deals told The AP the Giants have also worked out contracts with former Vikings defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo and veteran quarterback Mike Glennon. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deals have not been announced.

Odenigbo, 27, played in 32 games with 15 starts in three seasons in Minnesota. He started all 15 games last season and had a career-high 35 tackles and 3 ½ sacks. Hehad seven sacks in 2019.

Glennon started five games for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, completing 111 of 179 passes for 1,072 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. The 31-yearold has also played for Tampa Bay, Chicago, Arizona and Oakland in eight seasons.

Williams happy with deal: Leonard Williams got everything he wanted in a three-year, $63 million contract with the New York Giants before the start of free agency.

The 26-year-old, twice-franchised defensive lineman got money, stability, the chance to play in the same defensive system that led to a career year and to be with a team and staff that had faith in him after a shaky start to his career with the Jets.

With everything now in hand, his goal is not to change, except to get better.

“I don’t feel the need to have to change or anything like that,” Williams said Thursday after signing his new contract at the team headquarters in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

“Like I said, I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, and change the way I am or be a different guy. They paid me for the guy that I am. They brought meback here for the guy that I am. And I don’t want to change too much. Just want to get better.”

Williams had a career-best 11 ½ sacks this season along with 30 quarterback hits and 57 tackles.
