Hayes banks $1.2M toward reelection
Himes leads House with $1.8 million
With Republicans hoping to target her in 2022, U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-5th, has raised $425,275 in the first six months of 2021 and banked $1.2 million for her reelection to a third term.
George Logan, a former state senator from Ansonia, a Naugatuck Valley community just outside the 5th, has lined up GOP operative Liz Kurantowicz as a general campaign consultant, a sign that a formal campaign kickoff is coming.
Logan’s early goal will be to raise enough money to establish credibility with national donors and the National Republican Congressional Committee, which have largely ignored the district as New England has become inhospitable to Republican congressional candidates.
Hospitalizations
As of Tuesday, Connecticut had 54 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, up four from Monday and up from 25 at one point earlier this month.
Hospital officials say most patients who are severely ill with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated.
Lamont said Tuesday that hospitalizations are the metric he will monitor more closely in determining whether to impose new restrictions.
“I will watch it,” Lamont said. “If I see a steep curve, especially when it comes to hospitalizations — that’s
the metric that I follow.”
Vaccinations
As of Tuesday, 69% of all Connecticut residents and 79% of those 12 and older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 62% of all residents and 72% of those 12 and older are fully vaccinated, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Lamont once again urged all eligible residents to get vaccinated.
“We can stop this dead in its tracks if we get 90% of our people vaccinated,” he said. “This ought to be a wake-up call. … Let’s not wait. Let’s do it now.”
