Montero, Montes each homer twice as Yard Goats rout Baysox

Elehuris Montero and Coco Montes each hit two home runs, and Jameson Hannah had four hits as the Yard Goats pounded the Baysox 13-6 on Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. The 13 runs tied a season high for the Yard Goats, who also had a season-high 18 hits.

It was the first time that two players had multiple homer games for Hartford since July 14, 2017, when Brendan Rodgers and Drew Weeks each went deep twice. Yard

Goats reliever Michael Baird didn’t give up a hit in 2 ⅔ scoreless innings and struck out six in recording the win.

The Yard Goats scored twice in the first inning on back-toback home runs by Montero and Montes off Blaine Knight. It was the second time in the series that Hartford hit consecutiv­e homers.

After the Baysox got a run off Hartford starter Karl Kauffmann in the second inning, the Yard Goats scored three times in the third to take a 5-1 lead. The inning was highlighte­d by a two-run homer by Montes.

Bowie got a bit closer in the fifth inning as Kyle Stowers belted a two-run shot that made it 5-3.

The Yard Goats broke it open with a five-run sixth for a 10-3 lead. Jameson Hannah had a two-run single, and Montero capped the rally with a solo homer. Hartford added a run in the eighth and two more in the ninth. The Baysox got a three-run homer in the ninth by Patrick Dorian.

The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin’ Donuts Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday to host the New York Mets’ affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
